TL;DR

Personality is the consonants only. Y counts here when the next letter is A, E, I, O, or U. Then the free Personality calculator. The Foundation Soul Blueprint is $11.11.

Your Personality number is the consonants in your full birth name, added as one sum and then reduced.

Vowels stay out. If the consonant total, or any step after it, is 11, 22, 33, or 44, you stop. Those four are the master numbers in this method.

The table is often called Pythagorean. The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy says Philolaus, a fifth-century Pythagorean, emphasized the role of number in understanding the cosmos (Pythagoreanism).

The same encyclopedia says a later tradition treated Pythagoras, with no historical justification, as the source of Greek philosophy as a whole (Pythagoreanism). The encyclopedia's entry on Pythagoras says he wrote nothing (Pythagoras). Nothing on those pages is a consonant chart for a birth name. The arithmetic here is The Healer's Code method, a lens for how a name meets other people, not a prediction and not a verdict on your character.

Which letters you keep

Use the full name on the birth record, including every middle name. Cross out the vowels. What remains is this number. A nickname is not the core Personality number. A name you use now can be calculated on its own, and it does not silently replace the birth name.

Consonants are every letter that is not a vowel under the rule below.

Their values come from one table. A 1, B 2, C 3, D 4, E 5, F 6, G 7, H 8, I 9. J 1, K 2, L 3, M 4, N 5, O 6, P 7, Q 8, R 9. S 1, T 2, U 3, V 4, W 5, X 6, Y 7, Z 8. You will cross out A, E, I, O, and U most of the time. Y depends.

Y is a vowel unless the next letter in the same word is A, E, I, O, or U. In that case Y is a consonant and it belongs in this sum, at 7. A Y that ends a word is a vowel, so it stays out of the Personality number. EMILY's Y is a vowel. The consonants are only M and L, 4 + 3 = 7. MAYA's Y is a consonant, because it is followed by A.

Write the name, strike the vowels, and add what is left into one raw total. Do not reduce each word first. A letter you leave in by habit changes the sum. A Y you strike when the rule keeps it changes the sum the other way.

Take ANNA MARIE.

A 1, N 5, N 5, A 1, M 4, A 1, R 9, I 9, E 5.

Strike A, A, A, I, and E. The consonants are N, N, M, and R: 5 + 5 + 4 + 9 = 23. 23 is not a master number. 2 + 3 = 5. The Personality number is 5, written 23/5.

The vowels you struck sum to 17, and the whole name sums to 40. 17 + 23 = 40. That identity is the check. Personality is the 23, not the 17 and not the 40. Those are Soul Urge, written 17/8, and Expression, written 40/4.

In this method, 5 is The Freedom Seeker. Read it as a lens for the impression the consonants carry, the version of you other people meet first. If that is not how you are actually met, keep the number and set the label down. The chart is not a script for how you must behave.

MAYA is the short case that shows a master in the consonants. M is 4, A is 1, Y is 7, A is 1. Y is followed by A, so Y is a consonant. The consonants are M and Y: 4 + 7 = 11. 11 is a master number, so you stop. The Personality number is 11, written 11/2. You do not replace it with 2. The vowels are only the two A's, which sum to 2, and that 2 is the Soul Urge, not this number.

The full name MAYA sums to 13, then 4. On the way through 13, the method records 13 as karmic debt, then continues, because 13 is not a master. The same record is kept for 14, 16, and 19 when they appear in the steps. The Personality number of MAYA is still the consonant total, 11, not the 13 of the whole name.

How Y is counted

Say the name if you want. Then apply the lookahead anyway. A word-final Y is a vowel: Mary, Emily. A Y followed in the same word by A, E, I, O, or U is a consonant: Maya, Yolanda. Y is counted in one place, never both. If your paper and the calculator disagree, Y is the first place to look, and a middle name you skipped is the second.

The free Personality calculator uses this table and this Y rule, so the result matches the rest of the chart.

Where this number sits

Soul Urge is the vowels. Expression is every letter, added before either half is reduced. If you add the already-reduced Soul Urge to the already-reduced Personality, you can miss a master that only exists in the raw totals. Keep the three numbers side by side.

An outer ring of cool light around a warmer inner glow

People can meet the consonant number and miss the vowel number for a long time. That is ordinary. The useful part is seeing the gap, so you can tell what is already visible and what you have not said. It is not useful as an instruction to perform a personality.

Personality does not look at your birth date.

Calculate the consonants on the free Personality calculator. When you want this number read with the other five core numbers, by hand, the next step is the Foundation Soul Blueprint. The Foundation Soul Blueprint is $11.11.

Frequently asked

Which letters count?

The consonants in your full birth name. Vowels are the Soul Urge, not this number.

Why is MAYA a Personality 11?

Y is followed by A, so Y is a consonant worth 7. M is 4. 4 + 7 = 11, and 11 stays, written 11/2. You do not replace it with 2.

Can this disagree with how I feel inside?

Yes. Personality is the outside of the name. Soul Urge is the vowels. The gap is why the two sums are kept apart.

Do I use my current name?

The Personality number in the core chart uses the birth name. A current name can be read on its own. It does not silently replace the birth name.

Free, from the consonants in your birth name. The Foundation report reads all six together.
